Finance

- Office Assistant
- MOS Certifications available

A student may choose either Business or Finance. It will take the average student 12-18 months to complete. There is a foundation course that must be completed as a prerequisite to Business or Finance.

Electrician

This is a pre-apprenticeship program and is run by a National contractor, Home Builders Institute (HBI).

- Level A: Pre-Apprentice electrician
- Level B: Pre-Apprentice electrician - advanced

The length of time for completion of this vocation is approximately 18-24 months. A successful completer can look forward to positions primarily in residential and commercial wiring and on a more limited basis in industrial wiring.

Facilities Maintenance

This vocation has two levels and is run by a National contractor, Home Builders Institute (HBI)

- Maintenance Helper
- Maintenance Technician

When complete with this vocation, the student would be an entry-level maintenance helper. The second level gives the student more practice and indepth experience. It takes approximately 12-18 months to complete both levels.

Heavy Equipment

There are two levels with 7 sub-levels (pieces of equipment) to this vocation. This vocation is operated by International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 302

- Heavy Equipment Operator, Pre-Apprenticeship I
- Heavy Equipment Operator, Pre-Apprenticeship II

It takes the average student one year to complete both levels of this vocation. The seven sub-levels are: Bulldozer, scraper, loader, grader, backhoe, road roller, and forklift. Graduates can look forward to jobs in the heavy equipment apprenticeship program and with companies throughout the state.

Carpentry

There are two levels to this vocation. This program is a center operated program.

- Carpentry Helper I, Level 1
- Carpentry Helper II, Level 2

Graduates can look forward to jobs with: commercial builders, general contractors, homebuilders, re-modelers, or subcontractors.

The Carpentry program is customized for each student, typically requiring about one year or 1000 hours to complete.

Health Occupations

The Health Occupations program is customized for each student. Training includes: Classroom instruction, simulation exercises, clinical experiences, and Work Based Learning experience with various health care facilities. The Health Occupations program prepares students to take the Personal Care Attendant (PCA) and Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) exam through the state of Alaska.

After completing required course work for Health Occupations, students interested in furthering their education, may choose to go into the college program available through center or go into Off-Center Training (OCT). Some of the specialty areas listed below are taught via partnerships with other local training facilities.

- Medical Assistant Specialist
- Phlebotomy Technician Specialist
- Massage Therapy
- Medical Insurance Specialist

The time and length for completion for training offered on center is 4-12 months. Length of completion for additional specialty areas is approximately 9-12 months.

Human Services

Human Services workers serve clients who may be distressed, physically or mentally ill, severely handicapped, or in need of assistance to change social behaviors. The Human Services program prepares students for the State of Alaska Counselor Technician certification. Training includes classroom instruction, clinical experiences (which includes one month of campus setting observations and one month of agency-based observations) as well as Work Based Learning experiences (5-6 weeks of practicum work in a local agency.)

Most students will complete the Human Services trade in 12-18 months.

Computer Repair

This vocation has 2 levels:

- Computer Service Technician level 1
- Computer Service Technician level 2

When students complete all two levels in this vocation, they are eligible to take their A+ Certification test. It is a nationally recognized test that is non-vendor specific. This vocation takes 2-12 months to complete.

Water/Wastewater Treatment

- Water Laboratory Technician
- Water Distribution Worker
- Water Treatment Plant Operator
- Waste Water Treatment Worker
- Waste Water Laboratory Technician
- Waste Water Treatment Plant Attendant

A student must complete 1,950 hours of work based learning (WBL) to be eligible to sit for the State exam. To complete the classroom portion of this program, it takes a student approximately 6- 8 months. It takes a student approximately 24 months to complete the whole program.

Culinary Arts

The Culinary Arts program is customized for each student and typically requires 12 to 18 months to complete.

While completing the program students will have classroom instruction, demonstrations, hands on experience, and the opportunity to do work-place learning at culinary establishments across the state of Alaska. Social skills training is essential for success in a culinary arts career.

Students who successfully complete this program can look forward to a variety of culinary environments from an institutional setting to a fine dining establishment.

Off Center Training (OCT)

Students are able to participate in training offered by other local area institutions. Students must have identified this as their first choice trade at time of application for it to be their primary vocational choice. Students who are interested in off center vocational training to better meet their career goals after they arrive on center must first complete a level of on center vocational training.

Generally this training takes one year or less to complete.
